W hat is a goal? How do people pursue goals? The answers to these questions may seem obvious because people have a lifetime of experience at setting goals, pursuing goals, disengaging from some goals, and attaining others. One's history of experience with goals, however, does not mean that one has an accurate understanding of where goals come from, how the mind represents them, or how one goes about pursuing the aims that are so central to one's sense of personal fulfillment.Gordon B. Moskowitz - 2012 - In Henk Aarts & Andrew J. Elliot (eds.), Goal-directed behavior. New York, NY: Psychology Press.

The US neutrino community gathered at the Workshop on the Intermediate Neutrino Program at Brookhaven National Laboratory February 4-6, 2015 to explore opportunities in neutrino physics over the next five to ten years. Scientists from particle, astroparticle and nuclear physics participated in the workshop. The workshop examined promising opportunities for neutrino physics in the intermediate term, including possible new small to mid-scale experiments, US contributions to large experiments, upgrades to existing experiments, R&D plans and theory. The Reproduction Revolution-A Christian Appraisal of Sexuality, Reproductive Technologies and the Family: Edited by John F Kilner, Paige C Cunningham and W David Hager, Grand Rapids Michigan, William B Eardmans Publishing Company, 2000, 290 pages, $20, pound12.99. [REVIEW]Gordon M. Stirrat - 2001 - Journal of Medical Ethics 27 (6):415-1.
In their preface to this book, the editors rightly state that “few social or technological developments in history have captivated people's imagination or raised more ethical questions than today's reproduction revolution”. The authors then set that revolution in a wider context from which it is all too easily divorced today, namely the nature and meaning of sexuality and the fundamental importance of the family. As a “Christian appraisal” it is a useful apologia pro vita sua for those of us who (...)

Consciousness and the Brain: A Scientific and Philosophical Inquiry.Gordon Globus, Grover Maxwell & Irwin Savodnik - 1976 - Plenum. Edited by Gordon G. Globus, Grover Maxwell & Irwin Savodnik.
The relationship of consciousness to brain, which Schopenhauer grandly referred to as the "world knot," remains an unsolved problem within both philosophy and science. The central focus in what follows is the relevance of science---from psychoanalysis to neurophysiology and quantum physics-to the mind-brain puzzle. Many would argue that we have advanced little since the age of the Greek philosophers, and that the extraordinary accumulation of neuroscientific knowledge in this century has helped not at all. Increas- ingly, philosophers and scientists have (...)

"No matter who you are or what you aim to achieve, power determines whether you succeed or fail. But while power dynamics permeate every interaction in the workplace, the concept is very poorly understood or managed in practice. Everyone has influence over some people and is under the influence of others, and must choose how to deal with these realities in daily interactions. This book offers a comprehensive and applied understanding of power in a professional scenario: where it comes from, (...)

    Ocasionalismo y analogía del constructor, aplicada por Agustín a la creación.Michael W. Tkacz & Enrique A. Eguiarte B. - 2015 - Augustinus 60 (236-239):313-320.
Augustine is acknowledged by Malebranche as the source of his occasionalism and he appropriates the architect analogy of Augustine’s De Genesi ad litteram. Augustine’s analogy, however, is not a move toward occasionalism, but a response to Platos claim in the Timaeus that the cosmos can be destroyed and is only preserved by divine providence. The heterological nature of the architect image for creation shows that, far from arguing for occasionalism, Augustine is concerned to avoid the cosmogonically fallacious confusion of divine (...)
